Deanah Allen
Deanah Allen is a multidisciplinary visual artist and poet based in Mulubinba/Newcastle. Her work is grounded in the body as both subject and site of creation. Through feminist methodologies, she creates tactile and psychologically charged installations of cast forms, soft structures, and costume. These works blur the boundaries of traditional practice and open new spaces of introspection.
Drawn from her own bodily experiences as a neurodivergent woman and her Polish refugee heritage, she interrogates the tender line between care and violence. The tension and weight between each surface and material suggest an unseen spectre. A past form. Destruction, like creation, exposes a new surface. The moment of rupture is a central engine of her practice.
Deanah graduated with a Bachelor of Creative Practice, specialising in Visual Arts, from Newcastle Art School in 2022. Most recently, she was selected as the recipient of the HIC_ARA Residency, generously provided by The Creator Incubator.
