Jess Kellar
Jess Kellar is a neurodiverse artist, researcher, and advocate.
Her practice is conceptual, narrative based and emotionally charged. The dual Australian American citizen specialises in bold, expressive works of colour and scale, to make visible, the invisible.
She has been a finalist and winner of national art prizes, exhibited in commercial and public institutions and won numerous scholarships.
She holds a Bachelor of Fine Art, Bachelor of Design (Honours) and is a current PhD candidate at the University of Newcastle. The title of her PhD is Just Keep Stimming.
Her current practice focuses on the female phenotype of autism and stimming as a form of creative practice. She is exploring Bauhaus artists Gunta Stolzl and Anni Albers, Op artist Bridget Riley, and Japanese icon, Yayoi Kusama and their repetitive processes and patterns, geometry, colour, and visual perception to create movement and sensory experiences.
She is experimenting with detailed drawings, beading, UV light, and hand-made processes to create something new.
