Katie Ellen Wilkins

Katie Ellen Wilkins was born in the USA, grew up on Bunurong land in Victoria, and now lives in Newcastle/Muloobinba. She works primarily with fabric, thread and dye, creating pieces shaped by material and environmental factors like fibre, gravity, moisture and time. Katie is also an educator and the founder of Studio Tinta, an independent creative studio focused on sustainable dye practices and community engagement.

In 2025, her book Hand Dyed Designs was published by Hardie Grant, and she was one of two artists selected to present a solo exhibition as part of Collect: Focus at The Lock-Up, Newcastle/Muloobinba. In 2026, she was a finalist in the Hunter Emerging Art Prize at Newcastle Art Space.

We at The Creator Incubator acknowledge that we are meeting and working on the traditional country of the Awabakal and Worimi peoples. We recognise and respect their cultural heritage, beliefs, and continuing relationship with the land, and that they are the proud survivors of more than two hundred years of dispossession - land never ceded.
