Melody Suranyi

Melody Suranyi

Melody is a Newcastle based artist, muralist and art teacher whose work is vibrant and full of movement, texture and pattern. Working primarily in acrylic paint, Melody combines modern colours with ancient themes in her paintings. Her work often features dancing and reclining women or animals inside ancient vessels surrounded by flowing brush strokes and patterns of vines and flowers.

A graphic design graduate turned painter, Melody is community focused and passionate about sharing the joy of art through her art workshops for adults and children. During the week she teaches an after school art class for kids aged 6-12 called Kids Art Club as well as regular weekend art workshops for adults exploring watercolours, acrylic painting and printmaking.

When she isn’t teaching or painting for commissions or shows in her studio, you can find Melody painting murals around Newcastle in both private and public spaces.

Some notable projects include her mural in the Big Picture Festival 2024, Solo Exhibition ‘Ancient Rhythm’ at Grainger Gallery 2024, her feature in Swell Magazine 2025 and being a finalist in the MAC Yapang Art Prize and the Hunter Emerging Art Prize 2025.

We at The Creator Incubator acknowledge that we are meeting and working on the traditional country of the Awabakal and Worimi peoples. We recognise and respect their cultural heritage, beliefs, and continuing relationship with the land, and that they are the proud survivors of more than two hundred years of dispossession - land never ceded.
