Montserrat de la Garza

Montserrat de la Garza

Montserrat de la Garza is a Mexican/ Australian artist whose work draws on both historic and contemporary influences. Her work is rooted in surrealism and a metaphysical approach, often exploring the human form as a way to understand perception and the role of the senses in our lives, where the senses become symbols of our connection to the world. She creates body fragments as reminders of how we relate to our physicality, our senses, and our spiritual potential as humans.

Working mainly with ceramics, hand-building techniques and mixed media, her careful attention to detail reflects the joy of working with clay and the endless possibilities it offers for creation.

We at The Creator Incubator acknowledge that we are meeting and working on the traditional country of the Awabakal and Worimi peoples. We recognise and respect their cultural heritage, beliefs, and continuing relationship with the land, and that they are the proud survivors of more than two hundred years of dispossession - land never ceded.
