Wendy Gunthorpe

Wendy’s practice intends to evoke a sense of playfulness. Play, in its purest form, has no rules. It is intrinsically motivated and nonsensical; a separation from everyday reality. In her initial collection, Wendy looks for toys that are mass produced, of value only as a collection, have a prescribed purpose or manufactured intent. She breaks them apart.

Wendy’s sculptures intend to provide flexible and individualized interpretations of what ‘a common object’ might become.

In her everyday reality, Wendy draws on her learnings in behavioural science and medicine (PhD, University of Newcastle).
