Xanthe Roxburgh
I’m Xanthe, and I like creating things. I can’t keep up with my brain, and all my ideas are huge but I want to work in fine detail, which presents something of a problem. Ideally I’d like to be able to freeze time so that I can, indeed, create a hyper-realistic embroidered landscape that’s metres in length but only takes a couple of weeks to finish despite being worked from single-thickness threads.
Although I dream of working in wet media, immersion in parenting led me to dry media that I could pick up and put down at a moment’s notice with very little cleanup required. Currently my area of focus is embroidery, but I also enjoy finely detailed colour pencil work, and have a side interest in silversmithing. I was also a wedding and portrait photographer for 10 years.
My hobbies including starting new hobbies, especially ones that have a variety of weird/niche tools or materials to collect. I dream of living in a museum of objects I’ve found - I regret a decluttering phase which saw me dispose of my collection of broken spectacles I’d found in carparks - and I don’t drink nearly enough water.
