Art Collides with Chocolate: Revolutionary Moving Chocolate Sculpture Exhibition
Chocol’art is a groundbreaking showcase featuring moving chocolate art installations that push the boundaries of culinary artistry. This unique fusion of chocolate mastery and artistic vision opens to the public from 17-19 October, 2024, at The Creator Incubator in Newcastle. This event is part of Skills for Trades ongoing mission to inspire future industry talent, facilitate knowledge sharing, and elevate public appreciation of the creativity behind the art of baking and patisserie trades.
The Chocol’art Exhibition represents a collision of culinary expertise and artistic vision, showcasing the unparalleled expertise in chocolate sculpting and kinetic art from the collaborative team behind creating the "Boneshaker", the world’s first moving chocolate sculpture and the more recent "Iron Shark", the fully immersive two-metre-long 200kg chocolate creation, made in the gallery at The Creator Incubator two years ago; Dean Gibson (pastry chef/chocolatier), Jon Pryer (industrial designer/artist), and Shane Williams (photographer/videographer). This journey developed into the short international award-winning documentary created by Shane Williams titled “Skills for Trades”.
Dean Gibson, Jon Pryer and Shane Williams have been collaborating on projects and supporting Australian international competition teams since 2014. Together they created the world’s first moving chocolate showpieces and not only created world records but also provided amazing opportunities for training and collaboration for young tradespeople to learn skills, beyond those available in the classroom or workplace.
Exhibition Highlights:
Interactive moving chocolate art installation featuring seven suspended chocolate seagulls with one metre wingspans, flying through the projected backdrop of footage over Newcastle beaches.
Public-driven wheel animating a large chocolate seagull, encouraging visitor participation.
Centrepiece: A giant chocolate sea eagle sculpture with a two metre wingspan suspended from the ceiling with a fish in its claws.
